Description
Highlander 14’ Dinghy – Versatile Family Sailing & Rowing Boat
The Highlander 14’ Dinghy is the ultimate all-rounder for families, sailing clubs, and adventure seekers alike. With seating for up to eight people and two athwartship rowing benches, she is remarkably stable yet easy to handle. Whether you are enjoying a calm afternoon row or hoisting the loose-footed lug rig for a lively sail, the Highlander delivers fun, safety, and performance in equal measure.
Construction is both clever and efficient. Built from just five sheets of plywood, she uses a unique chine system developed by Selway Fisher Design. This method combines a stringer and epoxy fillet within traditional stitch-and-tape construction, so you get extra stiffness and strength while still keeping the build straightforward for amateur boatbuilders.
Moreover, the Highlander’s versatility is unmatched. You can fit her with cubbies, boom tents, or different sail rigs, and if needed, she can even carry a small outboard motor. The designer is also happy to discuss custom modifications, ensuring the boat adapts perfectly to your personal sailing style.
For those who want an even more distinctive look, the plans include notes for an optional pointed bow extension. This small change adds character while also enhancing her graceful lines.
