Stornoway 14’ Dinghy – Classic Design, Modern Build
The Stornoway 14’ Dinghy is the long-awaited big sister to our beloved Stornoway range—designed in response to high demand from sailors who love the original but wanted more space, stability, and performance.
We’ve based her construction on the proven Kingfisher backbone system, giving you a strong, rigid, and perfectly aligned build. The continuous backbone is formed from a forward girder, centreboard case, and aft girder fixed to a narrow bottom plank—creating a precise foundation for the ply frames, bulkheads, and transom.
Her 6 planks per side (patterns included in the plans) are stitched into place, then glass-taped and epoxied for a strong, watertight hull. For builders who prefer traditional looks, the plans also include mould shapes and jig details for clinker/ply construction—or you can strip plank the hull for an elegant wooden finish.
We’ve drawn a standard gunter rig so the mast and spars fit inside the hull for easy trailering and transport. If you’d like more sail power and a touch of classic style, she can also take the gunter yawl rig with bowsprit from our Kingfisher 14 design.
