Description
19’6’’ White Swan Cruiser Plans – More Space, Versatile & Easy to Build
The 19’6’’ White Swan Cruiser is an expanded version of the classic 16’ Grey Swan, designed in response to popular demand. The extra 3’6’’ of length adds significantly more cabin and storage space, while the beam remains modest to preserve excellent sailing performance.
The standard layout offers a four-berth arrangement with a cooker, fold-away basin, and room for a bucket WC. However, the design is fully adaptable to your preferences. Builders can also choose between a centreboard, bilge keels, or a central ballast keel, depending on sailing conditions and personal preference.
Construction is straightforward. Start with pre-shaped frames, fore-and-aft members, and a bottom panel assembled into a rigid prefabricated structure. Then apply stringers, followed by hull panels cut oversize and trimmed to fit. For added flexibility, the plans now include fiberglass (GRP) construction details, which require no mould and are similar to ply/epoxy methods.
Additionally, the plans provide a modified centreboard arrangement and inboard engine installation details. The design accommodates a 9 hp Yanmar inboard, keeping the centreboard below the cabin sole with cockpit controls for ease of handling.
With extra space, versatile construction options, and practical modern upgrades, the 19’6’’ Grey Swan is perfect for home boatbuilders who want a capable, comfortable cruiser ideal for coastal and sheltered water adventures.
