Description
Stornoway 9 – Stable, Strong & Easy-to-Build Sailing Dinghy
The Stornoway 9 is the first in a new class of dinghies designed for safety, stability, and sailing performance. With firm bilges and a moderately full transom, she carries loads with ease while delivering a smooth, responsive ride—without dragging excess hull through the water.
Her plank shapes are computer-generated for precision and a perfect fit, making her quick and easy to build using the stitch-and-epoxy method. With 5 planks per side plus a narrow hog plank, construction is simplified, yet the lines remain beautifully “eye sweet”.
She’s built from just 3 sheets of 6mm plywood and weighs around 90 lbs (41 kg), making her easy to handle ashore. The sail rig can be added later, so you can start rowing and upgrade to sailing when ready. The bow can be customized to your taste, though traditional stem details are included in the plans.
